Redmond’s inconsistencies in pass protection have cots the Bengals several drives, and last week against the Steelers defense was no different. Hart has had trouble with allowing free rushers, but has been slightly more consistent than Redmond. The only reason Andy Dalton has been better about avoiding sacks this year is because offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is allowing him to make quicker decisions, and Dalton can actually step up in the pocket because their former center Russell Bodine isn’t getting pushed back every play.The fact the the Bengals haven’t tried guys like Jake Fisher or Christian Westerman out at tackle and guard respectively means they probably won’t at this point. It should be something the team considers though if these inconsistencies continue.Playing to winThe Bengals took a step in the right direction when they went down the field after an Alex Erickson kick return and tied the game at 14 before the half last week, but if Erickson doesn’t have that return Womens Malik Jefferson Jersey , is Cincinnati content to just go into the half down seven while getting the ball after halftime? It’s hard to tell, but a better example of the Bengals playing to not lose rather than to win came in the second half. After another great return by Alex Erickson to start the second half, Cincinnati was faced with a fourth-and-one on Pittsburgh’s 40 yard line. They decided to punt the ball. Marvin Lewis defended the decision by saying “I’m not going to give them the ball there.”It seems he trusted his defense and special teams unit too much as the punt netted 28 yards and the Steelers went down the field anyway and kicked a field goal to take the lead anyway. There are people who will defend this line of thinking with something as cliche as “if you can’t convert in three downs then what makes you think you can get it on fourth down?” Well this is why.We are playing with a little bit of hindsight knowing that they gave up a field goal anyways, but those numbers are certainly favorable for the offense. Maybe a play like that could’ve swung things in your favor — We will never know now.Having linebackers play more aggressively in pass coverageThe Bengals have lost Nick Vigil for around a month now, and even before he went down, the linebackers have been a major issue in pass coverage. It is hard to imagine any wholesale changes to the way they play at this point in the season, but it is disappointing to see them drop back in coverage and look like they are just waiting for someone in front of them to catch the ball so they can tackle them.Of course the Bengals don’t really have the talent at linebacker for these guys to do much else in coverage. They don’t have a linebacker with a quick twitch or be able to break on the ball to stop moderate gains over the middle. The main reason why they beat Miami was because of the two turnovers that the defense turned into touchdowns. They also had turnovers that sealed their wins against the Colts and Ravens. Austin being more aggressive as a defensive coordinator has really paid off most of the season. An issue that has come up though is Carl Lawson’s playing time. Despite him being the team’s third best pass rusher, he has had a hard time seeing the field as consistently as Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap. Most of that probably has to do with the team worrying about opposing squads running at him, but at some point you just have to play your best players. On Friday, catcher Tony Wolters had two triples and three RBIs from the ninth spot as the Rockies won 7-1. On Saturday, rookie right fielder Noel Cuevas had three hits, including a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning off Mariners ace James Paxton.

“That’s what happens when you go on a little run of wins. The contributions are coming from multiple guys, whether it’s bench players or the guy getting the start. … You’re going to get tired of hearing me say that it’s going to take 25 guys, but it’s truly the case,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “We can’t just rely on our main guys. This team is in a good spot. I like how we are kind of coming together with this group and we have to continue.”

The top three batters in the Rockies’ order — DJ LeMahieu, Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado — combined to go 0-for-14 with seven strikeouts on Saturday. But the bottom three — Pat Valaika, Gerardo Parra and Cuevas — had seven of the team’s 10 hits.

“It’s a team sport; definitely today was the example,” Cuevas said. “The top of the order didn’t have the day that it wanted. We were able to get out with a ‘W,’ because the bottom of the order did their job.”

Cuevas’ homer, the second of his career, came one pitch after he failed to get down a squeeze bunt.

“I wasn’t happy at that moment that I missed it (the bunt) — we were trying to get that run in,” Cuevas said. “But after that, it was short memory. I missed it. So what? Next pitch Jesper Bratt Jersey Kids , I can’t remember that I just missed the bunt. I need to be ready for that pitch. That was it.”

Right-hander German Marquez and left-hander Kyle Freeland gave up one solo home run apiece in the first two games of the series. Freeland was gone by the time Cuevas homered Saturday, making a winner of reliever Scott Oberg.

“The bullpen is doing a nice job, but it starts with starting pitching, keeping us in games and doing their job,” Black said. “We will be at it (Sunday) and hopefully Antonio (Senzatela) can do what the crew has done over the last 10 days.”

Mariners right fielder Mitch Haniger returned to the lineup Saturday after missing two games with a sprained right knee, but second baseman Dee Gordon was limited to pinch-hitting duties after tweaking his hip Friday night. And catcher Mike Zunino is on the 10-day disabled list with a bruised left ankle.

“We’re a little banged up right now,” said Mariners manager Scott Servais, whose team had won nine of 10 games entering the series. “It happens. It’s part of what you go through in a long season like this.”

Senzatela faced the Mariners once as a rookie last season, a 5-0 loss at Safeco Field. He went five innings and allowed four runs, five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

LeBlanc is 2-3 with a 6.53 ERA in nine career appearances (seven starts) against the Rockies.

In the midst of a difficult season, the Kansas City Royals got a needed spark Friday night from one of their newest additions.

Rookie Rosell Herrera kept the game scoreless with a home-run robbery in the eighth inning and hit an RBI triple in the ninth, and struggling Kansas City beat the Houston Astros 1-0.

Herrera helped the Royals end a nine-game skid by bringing back Alex Bregman’s would-be homer. The right fielder reached over the short outfield wall to snag the first out in the eighth.

”He’s athletic, he’s fast,” manager Ned Yost said. ”He seems to swing the bat OK from both sides. It’s only been a week. There’s a lot to like looking at him on a short look.”

Adalberto Mondesi singled off Ken Giles (0-2) to start the ninth, stole second and took third on a flyout by Whit Merrifield. Herrera then sent a ball to center field to score Mondesi.

Herrera also had a double and is batting .278 in five games since being cut by Cincinnati and acquired by the Royals.

”That was very fun, not only for me but for my teammates because we played really good defense today … and that’s why we made the right play at the right time and won the game,” Herrera said.

Danny Duffy pitched six innings of two-hit ball for the Royals, and the bullpen didn’t allow another knock. Justin Grimm (1-2) pitched a scoreless eighth and Tim Hill threw a perfect ninth for his first save.

When asked about his work Friday night Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Jersey , Duffy briefly discussed his outing before raving about Herrera.

”Rosie he’s a stud, man,” he said. ”I’m a big fan of that kid. If he keeps playing as hard as he does, he’s always going to have a spot in the big leagues. We love that here. I’m really happy for him. He had a fantastic game.”

Houston was shut out for the first time since May 11. They still had several opportunities to score because of seven walks but went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

”It’s unusual because we’ve been pretty good swinging the bat lately,” manager A.J. Hinch said. ”It seemed like every opportunity ended in a double play tonight.”

Houston starter Dallas Keuchel pitched six strong innings. He allowed six hits and struck out six, while Duffy fanned seven after being tagged for seven runs in six innings of a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

The Royals had just wrapped an 0-8 homestand and had lost 15 of 16.

Kevin McCarthy took over for Duffy in the seventh and issued consecutive walks to Evan Gattis and Marwin Gonzalez. Pinch-hitter Tony Kemp then grounded into a force out that left Gattis out at third. But the Astros loaded the bases when pinch-hitter Tyler White reached on a fielder’s choice.

Houston came away empty-handed when George Springer grounded into a double play.

Salvador Perez doubled with one out in the eighth and Houston intentionally walked Alex Gordon before Alcides Escobar drew a walk to load the bases. The game remained scoreless when Hector Rondon struck out Paulo Orlando to end the inning.

Escobar started in center field, snapping a streak of 407 straight starts at shortstop dating to Sept. 26, 2015. That streak was the longest in Royals history and the longest active streak in the majors. It’s the first time he’s played a position other than shortstop since he joined the Royals in 2011 and the sixth time in his career he’s played in the outfield, after appearing in five games there for the Brewers in 2010.

The Royals started Mondesi at shortstop instead. They have said Escobar will also see time at second and third base this season.

”I just think that the time was right,” Yost said. ”He knows that his next career move is probably going to be a utility-type player … and he’s anxious to start showing people that he can handle it.”

Escobar, who entered the game 2 for 28, had two hits including a double.

”I thought (Escobar) looked good in center. He hits good as a center fielder,” Yost said with a laugh.
