Introduced to watch enthusiasts at Baselworld 2019, this model features a stainless steel case measuring 39 mm in diameter and 11.6 mm high. I mentioned before that this model perfectly fulfills the requirements of the classic dress watch concept. The best example of this is the case, which is 39 mm in diameter and is well balanced and elegantly designed with matte/glossy surfaces and smooth lines. The strong lug design enables the watch to meet today's demands, while the easy-grip winding crown bearing the GS logo provides a user-friendly profile. The curved sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating and glossy bezel successfully emphasize the classic theme of this model. The case has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal back and is splash-proof only.

Another component that lends itself to the classic dress watch style of this model is undoubtedly the dial... The dial is anthracite and features large vintage hands and slender hour markers, reinforcing the vintage theme. The small seconds indicator is at 9 o'clock and the vertical power reserve indicator is opposite it in a balanced layout. Apart from the brand logo, there are no extra words or marks on the dial, which highlights the simple and elegant nature of the watch.

The Grand Seiko SBGK009 also continues this concept in the movement department. The hand-wound caliber 9S63 has a power reserve of 72 hours (3 days) when fully wound and operates with an accuracy of +5/-3 per day. Thanks to the transparent case back, the beautifully decorated movement can be admired.

This model comes with a stainless steel bracelet with a very stylish design. Designing an elegant metal bracelet that fits the classic dress watch concept is not easy, as bracelets are often paired with sporty models and therefore rarely meet the standards of elegance. Therefore, brands either benefit from mesh/Milanese straps or prefer to offer stylish leather straps for their models without taking any risks.

The bracelet of the Grand Seiko SBGK009 comes in a nine-link format. The contrasting sequence of matte/glossy surfaces and the number of links create an elegant yet bold look. The bracelet is designed to match the thickness of the case and retains its elegance with a push-button locking folding clasp without sacrificing its user-friendly functionality.

The Grand Seiko SBGK009 is not a model for the general public. Its design style is almost rigid and its customer base is relatively limited. However, it is clearly one of the most refined examples of a concept that holds a large share in traditional luxury watchmaking.
