LONDON Cheap Fjallraven Kanken Mini Backpack Green , Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Britain's House of Commons on Wednesday voted to support a government motion on extending UK airstrikes against the Islamic State (IS) to Syria after 10 hours of intense debate.

The motion, requesting British "military action, specifically airstrikes, exclusively against ISIL (IS) in Syria," was approved by 397 votes to 223.

The approval will pave the way for British warplanes to extend their bombing missions from Iraq to Syria.

The debate and vote came amid continued protests against British military intervention in Syria. More than 1,000 protesters, led by the Stop the War coalition, demonstrated outside the Parliament Wednesday, chanting and holding placards reading: "Hands off Syria", "Don't bomb Syria" and "Say no to more imperialist war", among others.

Britain has been bombing IS, also known as ISIL, ISIS or Daesh, in Iraq since the House of Commons voted to authorize airstrikes in the Middle East country in September 2014.

Speaking after the vote, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: "Britain is safer because of the actions taken by MPs today."

He added that he was "very pleased that a significant number of Labour MPs voted with us to degrade this terrorist organization."

HAVANA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's Olympic champion hurdler Dayron Robles will miss the Rio Games due to nagging injuries that will keep him out of the 110 meters hurdles competition, the island's official media reported Tuesday.

According to the Granma daily, Robles hasn't been able to overcome injuries and agreed with trainers and medical staff to stay out of the Olympics.

Just a few days ago, Robles told Xinhua he was training in Havana but it was very limited due to the injuries that have kept him out of competition for the last 4 months.

The Olympic champion was planning his return to the Cuban track and field squad at the Rio summer games after two years of running independently.

Robles won the gold medal in Beijing 2008 with a time of 12.93 seconds in a competition that had very high expectations due to the rivalry with Chinese star, Liu Xiang, but the latter's injury kept him out of the final.

The Cuban newspaper also said triple jump star and world championship runner-up, Pedro Pablo Pichardo, is also dealing with injuries but he has traveled to Rio de Janeiro and will do the "impossible" to compete at the games.

Pichardo aggravated an injury in his right ankle last week in Cuba but the medical team decided to take him to Brazil and will continue to treat him there until the last minute.

Cuba's track and field delegation for Rio is made up now of 42 athletes and its best chances at winning medals are with Pichardo, discus thrower Denia Caballero, and pole vault world champion and Olympic runner-up Yarisley Silva.

African Safaris - Where To Go?

Posted by nick_niesen on October 29th, 2010

If you have never been on an African safari before, you may be at a loss as to where to go. If you have been on one, you might want to plan on going somewhere different. Not because you didn't enjoy where you went, but because there are so many beautiful things to see in Africa.

From snow covered mountains and beautiful waterfalls, to sandy deserts and aquatic reefs, Africa has got it all. Not to mention all the wildlife. Gorilla trekkers, bird watchers and fly-fishermen will all be equally delighted. If you love beautiful landscapes and communities rich in culture, you'll find that, too.

East and Central Africa

The eastern Africa and central African regions are loaded with many game parks which include a large variety and population of animals, from the wildebeest of Kenya (middle of the year) and Tanzania (early in the year) to the gorillas of Uganda.

East Africa's landscape includes the spectacular and majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and the famous volcanic Ngorongoro Crater, the largest of its type in the world, which is home to thousands of animals such as Zebra, wildebeest, black rhino, prides of lion including the black-maned males, leopard, cheetah, hyena, elephants, warthog, impala, buffalo, hartebeest, eland and other members of the antelope family.

South Africa

Southern Africa also offers a magnificent scenario for a great safari. South Africa offers an outstanding and rewarding game-viewing experience. Tours here are normally conducted in open 4x4 safari vehicles, giving you greater visibility than a mini-van (commonly used in eastern and central African safaris).

South African guides are highly trained and professional. Many camps offer night tours and walks, as well as safaris by canoe and even elephant back!

Some of the cities are beautiful, and the coastline of South Africa and the striking landscapes are sure to please.

Namibia is a good place if you are looking for elephant, rhino, lion and giraffe.

All the large mammals can be found in Botswana; elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, lion and cheetah are plentiful.
